Vittadini Sale / New Rebeccas Found / New Lantern Moon!

Posted in New Items, Sale Items by yarnbarn on the July 15th, 2008

For those that don’t know, Adrienne Vittadini is getting out of the knitting yarn/pattern business. Therefore, we have all our stock of Vittadini patterns and yarns on sale for 25% off until they are GONE!

Also, I’ve just come across some Rebecca Magazines / Rebecca Baby & Kids that were hiding in the store! They have already been added to the online store, and, of course, you can see them in-store as well.

Just arrived to The Yarn Barn are some of Lantern Moon’s newest bag designs, Morgan, Tasha (in Green & Black), as well as the fun new Fish Totes (shown below)!

Everyone out there stay cool!

COTTON KISSES - all you need to make a baby sweater in one ball!

Posted in New Items by yarnbarn on the May 23rd, 2008

JUST IN! SO new that Plymouth hasn’t even added it to their website yet: COTTON KISSES - as close to an instant sweater as you’re going to get (without buying one already made, of course!). No need to search for a combination of pattern, yarn and buttons - COTTON KISSES has it all-in-one!

Each ball is 200g and includes TWO free patterns (one ball is enough for one of the patterns - choose from a cardigan or a pullover) AND three adorable duckie buttons!

Wouldn’t this make a perfect baby shower gift for the expectant knitter mom?

Right now it comes in five solid colors and three variegated shades which you can see in our online store.

Come on in and get one in-store, or order it online!

Schaefer & Serendipity!

Posted in New Items by yarnbarn on the May 15th, 2008

Just in - we have new, gorgeous shades of Anne, Elaine and Heather from Schaefer yarn…just look at the Anne!

If you don’t already know, Anne is just great for socks and shawls…try it and you won’t be sorry! Content is 60% superwash merino wool, 25% mohair (non-itchy!), 15% nylon and each skein has a whopping 560 yards!

Also just arriving are our Spring shipment of Serendipity needles! Here’s just a few of the designs we have at the moment…

Keep in mind that these needles are one of a kind, so come in to see our full assortment. ‘Cause once they’re gone, we can’t guarantee we’ll ever get that design again!

Self-striping Summer Yarns…

Posted in New Items by yarnbarn on the May 7th, 2008

Today I’d like to show off two new summer yarns we have in stock that self-stripe in their own fun ways!

First is a 100% cotton from Katia called Samba:

The yarn has a matte finish and is very soft. There’s a generous 126 yards per ball and it knits up at a recommended 22 stitches pver 4″. Plus, it’s machine washable and we have some really cute kids patterns for it as well!

For a more blended striping effect, there is Dusk from Filatura di Crosa’s Fancy Collection:

Dusk is 65% Cotton, 30% Acrylic and 5% Polyamide and has a unique twist to it that makes it almost look handspun (advanced handspun, but still!). This is the yarn used for the cover pattern on the latest Knitter’s (check inside the magazine to see the top without the capelet!) and we also have some beautiful Filatura patterns for it.

Come in to see knitted swatches of both yarns…and don’t forget that our Mother’s Day Bag Sale is still going on through this Saturday, May 10th!

Young Rowan for the Spring…

Posted in New Items by yarnbarn on the March 21st, 2008

Here’s a new book from Rowan based on a great idea - kid-sized versions of Rowan Magazine designs!

Rowan has chosen eight patterns from Rowan Magazine 43 and sized them for the younger set. All are great spring and summer designs and are made in Rowan 4-Ply Cotton, All Seasons Cotton, Cotton Glace, Kidsilk Haze, Handknit Cotton and Denim.

You can find Young Rowan, complete with yarn requirements and photos in our online store!

BOING!

Posted in New Items, Sale Items by yarnbarn on the February 29th, 2008

Happy Leap Year Day! Today’s the last day to use the coupon from our last entry to get extra savings off our already 30% off sale yarns…hurry in by 5:30pm…

We’ve been lax in sharing new arrivals, so today I will provide you with THREE! All may be found in our sock yarn area at the front of the store.

From Schachenmayr Nomatta we have Micro Bamboo Spray - an incredibly soft and slinky yarn with a tone-on-tone hand-dyed look to it. This is perfect for those that are allergic to wool as it is 50% bamboo derived viscose and 50% acrylic! Machine washable, too…

From Crystal Palace Yarns, we have the Panda yarns! Panda Wool (seen on the right) is a marled multi-color yarn made of 51% bamboo, 39% wool & 10% nylon and we’ve got the four newest colors in stock right now. Panda Silk is 52% bamboo, 43% superwash merino and 5% combed silk, and as you can see, we have it in a large variety of solid and variegated shades! Both are deliciously soft!

Lastly, if you’re looking for something different for socks - Regia’s Softy fits the bill! Made of 39% superwash wool and 61% polyamide, little tufts of fur are twisted into the yarn to make cozy, fun socks!

I can see Softy worked up as SUCH a fun baby or kids sweater…or a crib blanket, even…hmmm….what about you?

Posted in New Items by yarnbarn on the June 19th, 2007

But that doesn’t mean knitting has to end! Summer is the perfect time for knitting quick projects like socks, tanks & tees, bags and more! Even if you don’t have air conditioning, these knits won’t overheat you if you choose cooler fibers!

We all know about cotton, but have you tried bamboo? Silky soft with a lovely drape, bamboo is perfect for summer knits! Besides being a renewable resource, bamboo is also naturally anti-bacterial and non-allergenic!

One of the newest bamboos is from Rowan - Bamboo Tape! This ribbon yarn is about 4mm wide and comes in some lovely Rowan-esque shades:

You’ll find 12 patterns for this lovely yarn in The Bamboo Tape Collection, also available in-store. Click here for a sneak peek at five of the patterns in this book!

Not so new, but certainly a classic, is Classic Elite’s Bam Boo in both solids and variegated shades!

Patterns for Bam Boo are to be found within CE’s booklets #9072 River and #9062 Farm, available in-store:

NOTE: Oh, we’re such teases…apparently #9062 Farm is out of print! HOWEVER, we do have a few copies left, so if you want it, come and get ‘em before they are gone!

For a luxurious worsted weight bamboo, look no further Plymouth Royal Bamboo!

Royal Bamboo is SO silky soft and comes in a wide array of colors. If you come in to check it out, do ask about the knitted swatch we have on exhibit done in lace! And, of course, Plymouth has many patterns to choose from for this yarn.

If you want something a little snazzier, check out Berroco’s new yarn Bonsai!

Click the photo above for the enlarged view!

Bonsai is a narrow tape yarn with markings inspired by the bamboo plant with a touch of nylon for sheen and comes in 9 beautiful colors!

What, you’re all about the socks? Like finer gauged items for the summer? Try some Regia Bamboo!

45% bamboo, 40% wool, 15% nylon and 220 yards/50g ball - 2 balls is enough for a pair of socks!

Next time we’ll talk linen! And don’t forget that for a limited time, many of your favorite yarns are 10% off - you’ll just have to come on in to see which ones (there’s way too many to tell anyone over the phone!)!!!
